Andrew & Melissa | A Burlington Wedding at The Landing 1841
This wedding. Wow. Where do I even begin? In order for everyone to understand how perfectly miraculous Andrew & Melissa’s wedding day truly was, a little back story is necessary.
Wisconsin has been receiving record rain falls this month, specifically in the last week. The week of Andrew & Melissa’s wedding, it rained all day & all night – that heavy relentless rain we experience once every 100 years. When the clouds parted and the rain subsided, the damage left Burlington in a state of emergency. The National Guard was called in, the town was without power for 3 days, the roads were too flooded to drive, and Melissa & Andrew’s ceremony site was completely underwater. With only two days to go until their wedding, Melissa and Andrew had to move their wedding and make new arrangements for everything. When I spoke to Melissa on the phone, she handled herself with such poise and I couldn’t believe how calm she was!!!! But the one thing that stood out from our conversation was when Melissa said to me, “No matter what happens, Saturday will be perfect – I get to marry my best friend. Nothing else matters.”
I know I’ve mentioned this in past blog posts but I truly love wedding toasts – it’s such an honor to hear intimate details about the couple and what paths & people molded their lives, bringing them to their wedding day. Melissa’s sister Catie spoke about how thankful she was to have Melissa as a role model and Andrew’s best man Zachary got choked up over the incredible union of his two best friends. But the moment I loved the most was when Melissa & Andrew stood up to thank both of their parents for being the ultimate example of what marriage means & what love looks like in real- life — two couples who showed them how to love unconditionally, through the ups & downs of this beautiful life.
Some of my FAVORITE portraits have come from this wedding and I firmly believe that is because Melissa and Andrew have a way of getting lost in the moment together. There were so many times — caught in the inbetween — that I felt like I was invading on a private moment. They snuggled tighter, kissed longer, laughed harder, and embraced each other with every passing minute. You couldn’t design two individuals more perfect for each other than these two and I have no doubt that one day their children will be giving wedding toasts, speaking about how they grew up with the perfect example of selfless love & what a wonderful marriage looks like.
Melissa & Andrew, thank you for welcoming us in on the most special day of your lives. We couldn’t be more honored to have spent the day documenting the biggest chapter in your love story together. I adore you so much!!!! Xo
A completely unposed + REAL moment during their first look – a favorite!

Melissa’s Dad came to drop off their son, Owen, and his “first look” with Melissa was so sweet!
