Nick & Aubrey | Oconomowoc | 5 Year Anniversary Session
The couple on today’s blog is EXTRA special to me because they happen to be my brother & sister-in-law! This duo is celebrating five years of marriage together and I couldn’t be more honored to share in that celebration by taking anniversary photos for them <3 Instead of hearing from me today, here is what Nick & Aubrey had to share with you about their relationship & what marriage has been like for them:
Q. How long have you guys been married? What’s been your favorite memory in that time together?
We have been married for 5 years and together for 12 years…close to being together half of our lives!
I can’t narrow down one particular memory, our life together is stocked full of memories. We aren’t the couple to lead a boring life that is for certain- always adventurous, always laughing, and always striving towards living each day to the fullest. Since meeting each other in college, we just simply enjoy the time we spend together. I would have to say that we sincerely enjoy the hobbies we have with each other whether different or the same and find time to balance these particular hobbies. We have a love for the outdoors, whether on our pontoon on the lake, hiking beautiful parks and or running together. A love for sports, fishing, ice fishing, and of course Nicks favorite Football season. We also have a love and same taste in music, whether dancing in the kitchen to our favorite tunes, going to a music festival, or the orchestra. A love for food is also something we share in common, with our favorite “hot spots” , we tend to go on a date night each week to relax and unwind from our busy week. Nick and I are fortunate enough to have a lot of similarities in common, in which we share together.
With that being said, no memory with us sticks out, as it is just a continuation of our life together. We are the couple that truly lives in the good times and in the bad times, and still remain the same couple. Everyday is a memory we share.
Q. What are some qualities you admire about Nick? What are some qualities you admire about Aubrey?
Aubrey: What I truly admire about Nick is his tenacity and never give up attitude. He teaches me to remain strong in times I truly just want to throw in the towel. Also, his optimism and positive nature. He has a love for life , and very rarely if ever complains even when times are unfair. Finally, his never ending love and the way he protects me ( and Bowser). Nick is my best friend in life and it shows truly in the way he cares for me and our little family- he is as loyal as it comes.
Nick: One of Aubrey’s strongest qualities is her compassion for people, and an uncanny understanding for what people need. She always gives as much as a she towards others. Another quailiy I really like, (and lack) is her creativity. Whether it’s in the dance studio, decorating at home, preparing different meals, or just coming up with different fun ideas, Aubrey always has her creative juices flowing. Another quality I really appreciate is her drive. She puts in 100% in whatever she does. Work, family, working out, dance, life.. whatever obstacles come in her way, she always smashes through them.
Q. Now that you’re married, what does a perfect date night look like to you guys?
I laughed at this question as we just talked about how different date nights have been just in the last few years of getting older… and reaching the old age of 30.
When we first were together, we enjoyed a night out , dancing, and staying out till late. Things have definitely changed …. Now we enjoy curling up in our PJ’s , cooking our favorite meal together, and watching a new flick with our pup, Bowser. Otherwise, finding a new spot to hike with our Bow.
Nick adds: That plus, early steak dinner, movie, and then drinks while talking late into the night.
Q. For someone planning a wedding, what’s one thing would you tell them? What is the number one thing you remember about the day you got married?
Don’t get caught up on the details, the dress, the flowers, the venue etc. Remember why you are getting married in the first place. It truly isn’t all about that…it is about promising your life to husband, and uniting with God (harder said then done!)
The number one thing I remember is not about the details at all but our ceremony and vows to each other. It truly was just us and God – you could feel the presence. Every time I think about that moment it was magical and so intimate more than words can describe – a moment I will never ever forget.
Q. What was the best piece of marriage advice you ever received?
The best piece of marriage advice I ever received was from my mother. She said that you must always put God first in your marriage, never last. This stuck with me as we have had our share of ups and downs, twists and turns, but when we pray together, learn together and dive into Gods Word – we are so much stronger together. This is a constant improvement for both of us but every day we strive to be closer to God individually and in our marriage. I can tell you there is no possible way we would get through what we have without putting God in the driver seat.
Q. Finally, what are some things you’re looking forward to during this next year of marriage?
I look forward to another season in life in our marriage, having a new house together, and a new dog has been a blast so far! We just want to continue learn together, always grow as a couple and making new memories in this new season together. Enjoy the everyday even when life is busy as it is!
LOVE this photo so much!!! <3
