Personal | Our Week in Cozumel
If you’ve seen my Instagram or Facebook recently, you’ve probably gathered that I just spent a week in Mexico (am I annoying you yet with warm + sunny photos?). ;) The purpose of our trip was to document my best friend’s destination wedding but since we were already making the trek, we decided to spend a full week there and soak up the sun!
If you know me personally or I’ve shot your wedding, many of you will recognize my friend Mark — he second shoots about 90% of my weddings with me! Having him along to help test lighting conditions was so helpful and as a bonus, he now has a ridiculous amount of pictures of himself (which he loves). Caity, Mark, and I have been friends for over 15 years and we’ve NEVER taken a trip together!!! So naturally, I decided to document every waking moment of our trip via camera & phone.
On Sunday, we hit the beach as soon as we possible could! Most of the day was spent exploring our resort, hanging oceanside, and taking photos of each other to test the lighting conditions for Caity’s wedding.
This was one of the restaurants on our resort that we frequented – so pretty at night!!!
On Monday, Ben & I rented a jeep and explored the island! Aside from Caity’s wedding, this was my favorite day of the trip!
The second I saw a sign for drinks in a pineapple, I made Ben pull over! I might have ‘Sucker’ written on my forehead but the drink was worth every penny. Did you even really go to Mexico if you don’t drink out of a fruit cup???
The south side of the island doesn’t have electricity so I loved how desolate it was! And can we talk about the color of that water?! So pretty!
Mark & Ben, matching their outfits on accident again.
Another favorite part of the trip was jumping off this pier!!! We spent hours here and came back a few times throughout the week. There was also PHENOMENAL snorkeling below the pier!
On Tuesday night, we headed into town with the group (about 22 people) and hopped on a Pirate Ship Cruise! Before we jumped on board, there were street performers who quite literally broke it down with their moves.
Things got a little rowdy while we were on board ;)
Wednesday was a beautiful welcome bonfire on the beach for Caity’s wedding guests! I didn’t take any photos other than these two but dang, was it peaceful.
Thursday was OBVIOUSLY the best day! Caity’s wedding was perfect, perfect, perfect. Also, check out this “LETS GET YOU MARRIED!” photo taken hours before she walked down the aisle :) I’ll cherish it forever.
Mark took some BTS photos of me shooting details :)
Friday was super relaxed and we sat by the beach all day! At dinner time, we all caught a taxi to The Money Bar and ate oceanside with a live band!
Not documented here was the trip home…. mostly because we were depressed to be leaving, our flight was delayed and then we had to SPRINT through the airport to make our connection home. :) One day we’ll laugh about it…….
And here are my biggest take-aways from the trip!!!
- Destination weddings are always a good idea
- I love my friends SO much and I’m so lucky to have lifelong friends like these
- We are hoping to plan an annual trip for the 6 of us to take every year!!! It only took 15 years for us to realize that we should do this more often.
